Press Release - Nuclear Executive Orders will Help Fuel American Energy Dominance

Tax incentives and financing remain keys to industry’s success
Washington, DC – Thursday, May 23, 2025 – ClearPath Action released the statement below following the Trump Administration’s Executive Orders directing federal agencies to take action to deploy new nuclear energy.

“Nuclear energy is critical to unleashing American energy dominance, and these Executive Orders underscore and recognize nuclear energy as a vital national security asset,” said ClearPath Action CEO Jeremy Harrell. “These Executive Orders take a whole-of-government approach to move quickly in support of new deployments. Concurrently, to accelerate a nuclear energy resurgence, Congress must still support the industry’s ability to deploy projects effectively. We look forward to working with House and Senate Republicans to support the Administration's vision by implementing legislation like the ADVANCE Act and preserving key energy tax incentives and financial tools for nuclear energy.”

In addition to the Executive Orders directing federal agencies to take action to deploy new nuclear, the Trump Administration, a group of Congressional Republicans, and Republican Governors are continuing to champion several existing tax incentives which are critical for unleashing American energy dominance.
  • Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright said he would like to see “very favorable treatment” from the federal government for nascent geothermal and nuclear technologies. “I’m in favor of every nudge, every incentive we can get from the federal government to restart this industry.”
  • Govs. Mike Braun (R-IN) and Henry McMaster (R-SC) each sent a letter to Congressional leadership, urging them to keep federal incentives for new nuclear plants in place.
  • Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) sent a letter along with 26 House Republicans to House Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) in support of energy tax credits for advanced nuclear deployment.
  • Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) sent a letter along with 11 House Republicans urging House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) to protect the Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Section 48E, and Clean Electricity Production Tax Credit (PTC), Section 45Y.
